Oxford City Women kept up the pace at the top of the table as they came back in impressive style after conceding an early goal to pick up a 2-1 win over Portchester Ladies at The MGroup Stadium this afternoon.
City fell behind after just five minutes but levelled after 28 minutes when the hard-working Ellie White rolled the ball through for Issie BRadley to make it 1-1.
The deciding moment came five minutes later when a Portchester midfielder, in attempting to pass the ball back to the keeper from 30 yards failed to spot her teammate off her line and was horrified to see the ball loop home for a long-distance own goal that ultimately decided the game
Manager Connor Walton told us
“IT showed character to come back from a goal down like that. We didn’t panic, we stuck to the plan and in the end it paid off. Both sides had chances in the second half, and Keira Maskell had to make a couple of good saves but we had created just as many opportunities to kill the game off so it was a deserved three points.
“We have done ever so well at home this season and this was another strong performance”
