Oxford City Women ended the first half of their season with a disappointing 7-2 defeat at Portchester this afternoon.
City remain in the pack chasing promotion but were well beaten on the day as goals from captain Georgina Tayman and striker Kitty Crouch turned out to be mere consolations as Manager Connor Walton told us
“No excuses we were second best on the day. We started slowly, which is not like us, and were 3-0 down before GT got us back into it. We then concede again before Kitty makes it 4-2 and at that point you just wonder if something might happen.
But a penalty made it 5-2 and then two late goals ended up making it a scoreline that we’ll want to forget quickly.
“I think we have set very high standards this season but today was the one game where we fell short and we got punished. It’s all about how we respond now.
“We have a friendly against Oxford United next Saturday with a big crowd to see that before the Men’s game later in the day. It will give us a chance to have a look at one or two things away from the league and then we will come back in the new year looking to get back to winning ways immediately.”
