Oxford City FC will be supporting our Women’s First Team player Xiomara Wellington-Faissalm and her family and we are appealing for the whole football community in Oxford to join us in helping them at a difficult time.
Xiomara and her sister Blue, who plays for Abingdon United U14s, both started playing football for Oxford Blackbirds with the incredible support of their mum Pearl, a dedicated football mum and teaching assistant.
Pearl has recently been diagnosed with incurable cancer and as she prepares to start treatment and step away from work, friends and family are stepping up to help.
On the the 12th/13th April they are hoping that the Oxford football community will come together for a special event in support of Pearl and her three daughters—Blue, Xio, and their sister Ney.
That day will see a 24-Hour Football Match: Play for Pearl, held at the Oxford Academy from 2pm to 2pm
Anyone can get involved whether you’re part of a team, a group of friends, an individual, or just love the game. All ages and abilities are welcome. You can also come along and support from the sidelines. There will be refreshments, activities, and a fantastic community atmosphere If you would like to sign up to help then email playforpearl@hotmail.com
Can’t make it? You can still contribute to the GoFundMe page
Funds raised will help with:
* Essential living costs while Pearl undergoes treatment
* Trust funds for the girls’ futures
* Funeral expenses to ensure Pearl receives the farewell she deserves
* Ongoing care for Pearl’s eldest daughter, who will require 24-hour support without Pearl
* Keeping Xiomara and Blue involved in the football they love
If you know Pearl or the girls we ask you to give them privacy at this time and support them instead through the event and the GoFundMe page
Pearl has always been there on the sidelines, cheering on her girls and supporting our footballing community. Now it’s our turn to show up for her and her daughters…
