Join The Club | Oxford City To Increase Junior & Youth Player Intake For 2025/26

April 27, 2025

Club aim to introduce seven new female JPL squads.

Oxford City Football Club are delighted to announce a significant development of its Junior & Youth football structure ahead of the 2025/26 season.

As of next season, every age group from U9s through to U16s will aim to operate with both a JPL AND Grassroots football team representing the club.

This will mean that the number of young players representing Oxford City will rise to its highest ever number with more opportunities than ever to join the club for next season.

Currently 472 players train & play in our youth system every weekend, with that number expected to rise to over 600 next season with this exciting development with 9 new teams for the club.

The addition of more JPL teams is particularly notable for our female player pathway.

After adding our first advanced girls’ team in the summer, the female pathway continues to develop year on year and will now see an additional seven girls-only JPL teams welcomed to the club this summer.

With the addition of these squads, we will be holding Trials throughout July with a form linked below for players to express interest in joining one of our new advanced squads.

These trials will consist of two stages, with players receiving invitations to join us for a second stage if successful. We’ll also be holding open sessions for grassroots teams. (See below for more information).

Head of Female Football Aliyah Anthony said: “The progression of the female pathway here at Oxford City has been nothing short of remarkable.

“I’m extremely proud to play a part in this big development for girls’ football in Oxfordshire.

“As of next season, we’ll be giving girls an opportunity to play football at a club with superb facilities, and continue to develop the talent we already have by entering them into a more competitive competition.”

What Is JPL?

The JPL is England’s largest youth league, with almost 2,500 teams taking part in the competition each week.

The JPL sits in between grassroots and academy football, providing a more competitive level of football for young footballers that excel at grassroots level.

Unlike grassroots level with local leagues, the JPL offer a wider range of teams all competing at a higher level (albeit organised per region).
