Oxford City look to book themselves a place in the Oxfordshire Senior Cup Final as they face Thame United on Tuesday night at The ASM Stadium (7:30pm KO).
It is only the second game for City in this competition having beaten Clanfield (85) in the quarter-finals away from home. Having gone 1-0 down through an early Tyger Hall penalty, City rallied. City goalkeeper Tom Russell kept the Hoops in the game with a couple of fine saves before Phil Croker brought them level.
The winner was struck home just six minutes from time by Mekhai Bessasa-Grant as he slid his one-on-one chance under the goalkeeper and propelled City into the last four for a rematch of a 2023 Oxfordshire Senior Cup semi-final.
Thame United entered the competition a round earlier than City and quickly brushed aside Adderbury Park with an emphatic 9-1 victory before moving on to face Kidlington. Jefferson Louis scored the only goal of the game as he brought down the cross six yards from goal and slotted it past the goalkeeper.
The last time the sides met was in this competition's semi-final last year when Thame United won 2-1 thanks to strikes from current City player Jayden Carbon and Ethan Lack. The sides had met the year prior in the final. Thame United also won this fixture comfortably, 4-1.
Oxford City Manager Ross Jenkins welcomes this fixture as the side look to take their minds off the 7-0 defeat to Buxton from the weekend. He said: "It will definitely focus our minds elsewhere. It will be good for the younger players to be involved after they impressed during the midweek Town v Gown game.
"Those who aren't involved will be training and working hard and focussing on returning to our standards."
With the prospect of silverware looming and with City having come so close during the last few years, Jenkins admits that it would be a welcomed boost to morale.
"Winning anything is good, to win a competition will be really nice. We have done well in the competitions this year. We were unfortunate against Woking but that's done and we have to move on. Tuesday is a good chance for us to play in a final"
