The Hoops had to come from behind in the game, after Alex Fletcher gave the hosts the lead after two minutes, before Fletcher and Tom Richards salvaged a point for Bath.
City got off the worst possible start in the game, conceding after just two minutes. The ball was played into Alex Fletcher on the right-wing and he had the freedom of Twerton Park to steer the ball past a helpless Ben Dudzinski.
However, the Hoops weren’t to be dismayed by the early set-back and after the first ten minutes passed controlled the first-half. Jacob Bancroft thought he had an equiliser on twenty minutes, but his flicked header bounced off the top of the crossbar to the striker’s dismay.
City eventually equalised in the twenty-fifth minute. Zac McEachran expertly flicked the ball over his marker (a piece of skill that wouldn’t be amiss in the Premier League) and found George Harmon on the left-wing. Harmon’s cross was perfect for Iaciofano, who flicked the ball past Ryan Clarke and into the net.
The Hoops were making their dominance count and Josh Ashby’s dipping shot from 25-yards was inches away from giving Jenkins’ side the lead. However, City didn’t have to wait long to go in front.
Ewan Clark continued to terrorise the Bath defence and on the hour mark he left Bath full-back Zak Delaney on the floor before cutting into the box and picking out Bancroft. It left the striker with the simplest of finishes to fire home City’s second of the game.
Half-time: Bath City 1-2 Oxford City
After the interval Jerry Gill’s side came flying out of the traps. Dan Ball headed a cross towards goal that looked destined for the net but the crossbar denied the defender.
Nevertheless it was the Hoops who extended their lead. McEachran touched the ball down before unleashing a ferocious strike past Clarke at the near post from outside the box. A beauty!
However, despite having nothing to play for but pride, Bath weren’t giving up easily. Fletcher was on the scoresheet again just after the hour mark, heading home from an inch-perfect cross. Game on.
The hosts had former Oxford United Goalkeeper Ryan Clarke to thank for keeping them in the game. Ewan Clark was fed through on goal but the
The comeback was complete fifteen minutes from time when Tom Richards headed home from Joe Raynes’ cross, setting the game up nicely for a grandstand finish.
City looked for a winner but couldn’t find their way past the resolute Bath defence. The draw, coupled with results from elsewhere, means City will play Eastbourne Borough in the Vanarama National League South Play-Off Eliminator.
