Jacob Roddy's first senior goal wasn't enough to spark a comeback for an injury-stricken Oxford City, as the Hoops were swept aside by Dagenham & Redbridge at Victoria Road.
Ryan Hill's opener was followed by stunning goals from Frank Vincent & Inih Effiong.
Effiong added his second (and Dagenham's fourth) just forty seconds after the interval, but a well-worked City move led to Jacob Roddy's first goal of the season and a faint semblance of hope for Ross Jenkins' side.
However, that was short-lived, as once again the Daggers hit straight back through Josh Rees.
Rees went on to score two more goals to secure a hat-trick. Furthermore, an overhead kick from the midfielder was the pick of the goals, on a day which everyone associated with Oxford City will be keen to forget.
City boss Ross Jenkins was left with a difficult task when it came to team selction with a number of players picking up injuries throughout the week.
The Hoops were forced to make six changes from the mid-week defeat to Woking. Canice Carroll & Josh Parker both missed out after sustaining injuries.
17-year-old Central Defender Phil Croker was handed his full City debut, as was Bristol Rovers loanee Harvey Greenslade & Giles Phillips.
The game started with the hosts in the ascendancy. Furthermore, it only took them five minutes to find the opener.
Ryan Hill was the man most alert to sweep a shot into the back of the net, after Inih Effiong's clever cut-back from the by-line.
City had started to work their way back into the contest, but when it came to clear-cut chances, they were few and far between.
Moreover, they were dealt another blow ten minutes before the interval in stunning style. Frank Vincent controlled Jake Hessenthaler's pass 25-yards out from goal and unleashed a pile-driving effort into the top corner.
City goalkeeper Marcin Brzozowski was left with no chance, and could only watch the shot fly past him into the net.
However, despite being 2-0 down, City always held hope that they could work their way back into the game. Perhaps the opportunity of a half-time break would galvanise a youthful Hoops squad.
Nevertheless, all hopes of a comeback were quashed when Effiong grabbed his first goal of the game.
A long ball forward was well controlled by the strong striker, and he cut inside to unleash another pin-point effort into the top corner of the net from outside the box. Another great goal.
Half-Time: Dagenham & Redbridge 3-0 Oxford City
Ross Jenkins moved swiftly to try and turn the tide at the interval, introducing Andre Burley & Renny Smith to the match in replace of Harry Birtwistle & Lewis Coyle.
Although, once again, any hint of hope was to be cruelly snatched away from City just forty seconds after the re-start.
The powerful Effiong found it too easy to waltz past the Hoops' backline and into the area, and had no problem in drilling the ball underneath Brzozowski to make it 4-0.
Although, to their credit, the defeat wasn't through lack of trying and the visitors grabbed a goal back just three minutes later.
A well-worked move was finished off with a superb cross from Aaron Williams-Bushell being nodded into the net by Jacob Roddy at close-range. A proud moment for the on-loan Charlton Athletic man - his first goal in senior football.
However, once again, the brief glimpse of positivity was to be short-lived and a crazy start to the second-half got even crazier...
Josh Rees the scorer this time, but once again Effiong was the instigator. Again, it was too easy for the striker to burst through the backline and he found Rees inside the box to blast home. 5-1.
Josh Ashby almost pulled a second-goal back for City just seconds after that, but his volley from Smith's knockdown didn't find the target and flew wide of the mark.
From there on in (if it wasn't already) it was damage limitation for the Hoops, but they cam up against a Dagenham side that kept scoring stunning goals.
The best came in the 67th minute when Rees grabbed his second of the game. A long throw-in was headed away by Roddy, but Rees acrobatically found the net with his back towards goal with an outstanding bicycle kick.
The salt was well and truly rubbed into City's wounds in the last ten minutes when Rees completed his hat-trick. Andre Burley did well to clear the imminent danger with a sliding challenge, but the ball bounced straight into the path of Rees who had the simplest of finishes to finish the route.
Very much a day to forget... However, Saturday's home fixture against Southend gives City's crestfallen squad a chance to bounce back.
