MATCH REPORT: Oxford City 1-1 Plymouth Parkway (Parkway win 4-2 on penalties)
Oxford City were knocked out of the Isuzu FA Trophy on penalties after a 1-1 draw with Plymouth Parkway.
Joe Iaciofano had put City ahead in the second-half but a goal from Harrison King fifteen minutes from time sent the tie to penalties.
Ross Jenkins made one change to the side that beat Dover 3-1 on Tuesday night, Charlie Rowan replaced Andre Burley.
It took a while for both sides to find their feet in the tie, Parkway had a game plan of sitting back and creating a low block that worked well.
Parkway 'keeper Adam Parkes produced a stunning save to deny Zac McEachran from opening the scoring on fifteen minutes. McEachran danced through the defence and rounded the last man, but just as he looked to score, Parkes stuck a leg out and deflected the midfielder's shot behind for a corner.
City were playing some good football but were still struggling to create any clear-cut chances. However, just after the half hour mark Aaron Williams-Bushell was scratching his head about how he didn't score. The winger was played through on goal from inside the box by McEachran but his shot cannoned off the bar from a tight angle.
Parkes was on top form for the whole of the game (and was undoubtably man of the match for the visitors) and he was called to action once again just before the interval, this time parrying away Josh Ashby's free-kick.
Half-Time: Oxford City 0-0 Plymouth Parkway
City started the second-half in the ascendancy one again but couldn't seem to find a way past the impressive Parkes. Latrell Humphrey-Ewers had an effort well saved three minutes after the break.
However, City did eventually find the net in the fifty-fifth minute. Joe Iaciofano's touch gave him the space to run into the box and after running onto the ball he slotted the ball into the net.
The goal completely changed the momentum of the game and Parkway had to ditch their conservative style for a more forward-thinking style. Moreover, it worked!
Dudzinski had to be alert to a number of dangerous attacks in the second-half, firstly saving Ben Seymour's shot before tipping another threatening effort over the bar.
However, Parkway scrambled in a leveller when Harrison King's low drive took a cruel deflection with fifteen minutes to go.
City weren't resting on their laurels though and Josh Ashby nearly put the Hoops back ahead. This time his second free-kick of the game came crashing off the crossbar.
There was still time for either team to find an winner and it almost fell to the visitors. Tom Harrison did brilliantly to head an effort off the line with two minutes to go, before Parkway did find the net, only for the linesman's flag to overrule the goal.
For a third game this season, the two teams couldn't be separated after ninety minutes, so the game went to a penalty-shootout.
Ben Dudzinski did well to save Parkway's first attempt but Reece Fleet also saw his penalty saved. The scores were level in the shootout up until City's fourth penalty where Canice Carroll saw his effort cruelly come crashing off the crossbar. From then on, Parkway won it and progressed through to the next round.
City's attentions quickly revert to Vanarama National League South action on Tuesday, as high-flying Dartford visit the RAW Charging Stadium. A chance for the Hoops to put an embarrassing afternoon behind them.
