MATCH REPORT: Oxford City 1-3 Slough Town

December 26, 2022

Zac McEachran's thunderous strike wasn't enough for three points as Oxford City fell to a 3-1 defeat to Slough Town.

The midfielder's leveller in the 25th minute was the pick of all four goals in the game, however Alfonso Tenconi's double and Imran Kayani's header meant the Hoops left with nothing.

Ross Jenkins made one change to his side after the Christmas break. Klaidi Lolos replaced the absent Tom Harrison.

City should've taken the lead after only six minutes when Klaidi Lolos was fed in on goal by Aaron Williams-Bushell. However, with the goal gaping, Slough goalkeeper Rhys Forster somehow got a limb to the effort, springing to the other side of the goal line to keep the score level.

Moreover, Slough made City pay after Kayani reacted quickest to a flick-on in the box to beat his marker and head past Ben Dudzinski.

Despite going behind, the Hoops weren't to be outdone. McEachran grabbed his goal in sensational style, firing home a shot from twenty-yards out. There was too much power on the shot for the Town defenders to react and once again, the scores were level.

However, City couldn't defend their lead and once again fell behind, this time through Tenconi. His first goal coming after Burley couldn't clear a cross, leaving the striker with the simplest of finishes to smash the ball over the line with nobody around him.

The away side could've been home and dry before the interval too. Ex-City striker Elliot Benyon could only direct a shot at Dudzinski at the back post after he latched onto a cross, another big let-off for City.

Half-time: Oxford City 1-2 Slough Town

After the interval, the Hoops never really got going and just after the hour mark, Slough made sure that they were leaving with the points.

Tenconi the scorer again, this time chipping Dudzinski after City failed to clear their lines.

From then on in, Slough 'shut up shop' and the Hoops couldn't find their feet in a gritty game. Klaidi Lolos went close twice, but his free-kick from the edge of the box and his tricky rabona from point-blank range never troubled Forster in the Slough net.

Tenconi should've had a hat-trick but fluffed his lines when it mattered most. The striker failed to tap the ball into an empty net after a Lee Togwell cross found the striker alone at the back post.

A disappointing Boxing Day for City but they have a chance to get their revenge in their next game, the reverse fixture at Slough on New Year's Day.
