Powerchair Football returns to Oxford City Football Club

Mar 25, 2024

Club increases its community provision with popular programme returning.

Oxford City are delighted to announce a brand-new initiative which allows people with physical disabilities to play football and enjoy coaching sessions with our trained coaches.

Powerchair football is a unique sport that provides opportunities for people with a high level of impairment to access the game of football.

It is the only active team participation sport for people who use electric wheelchairs.

The game is for anyone who uses a powered wheelchair or those who have limited movement in a manual wheelchair.

The sport is fast-paced, dynamic and very enjoyable to watch. The unique nature of powerchair football allows all ages, disabilities and both genders to compete together.

Oxford City will work alongside the FA and The Wheelchair Football Association (WFA) and host sessions on Sundays at the RAW Charging Stadium with the first one taking place on Sunday 21st April.

All abilities are welcome and the FIRST SIX WEEKS ARE FREE!

James Gilmore, Football Development Manager at Oxford City said

“As a football club we have hundreds of footballers of all ages and abilities playing at Oxford City every week.

"It’s exciting to be able to introduce Powerchair football which will allow people to play the game who maybe haven’t had the chance before.

"That’s one of our key values, to give as many people as possible the opportunity to play football.

"Everyone is welcome and we hope it’s something that grows and grows.”
