Record numbers for Women's team trials & open sessions

May 28, 2024

Preparations for the new season get off to flying start.

The club continues to develop pathways for female footballers of all ages from across Oxfordshire and trials are already under way for new players for next season with an astonishing number of players joining in.

107 senior players have signed up for trials for our Women’s sides while 134 junior players have attended trials for our junior sides which operate from under 8s to under 18s.

Aliyah Anthony oversees the development of women’s football at Oxford City and told us:

“Those numbers are incredible.  When I started out as a player it was sometimes hard to find girls to form a team but the interest this summer has been phenomenal, and it shows two things very clearly. One is the pace at which the game is growing globally, and the second is that people in Oxford see this as a place they can enjoy playing structured, competitive football at all levels knowing that our coaches will help get the best out of them.

“It’s not just about our club either. We want to make sure female football keeps growing so we will work with all of those players at trials and if their future isn’t here then we will offer advice and contacts to help find them a club so they can continue to play the game.

“I have to say as well, the standard of all the players has been very high and that is so encouraging to see. It’s great to have the backing of the whole club: Andy Sinnott our new Chairman has been a mentor to me on my coaching pathway and we know that he, owner Justin Merritt, the Board and all of the staff have total belief in what we are building.

“The trials will finish, then we have junior tournaments through the summer before we come back and hopefully start another exciting chapter for women’s football at Oxford City.”
