Reece Fleet: "It’s a proud moment and it’s a privilege to play for this club."

Reece Fleet on making 300 appearances for Oxford City.

Reece Fleet hit a milestone number when he started on Saturday against Ebbsfleet United as it was his 300th appearance in the famous blue and white hoops. Since joining in 2011 Fleet has become a real midfield stalwart and a reliable figure in the centre of the park and is a real presence in the City squad, and as a result has seen him wear the captains armband for the majority of games this season. Here is his reaction to the landmark occasion.

“It’s something I’m proud of. It’s absolutely flown by and I can’t believe how quickly it’s gone.”

“It’s a proud moment and it’s a privilege to play for this club.”

“I remember when the pitch was like a sandpit at one point, but the whole infrastructure of the club is going one way, and that’s forward.”

Fleet isn’t known for scoring many goals, but when he does, they seem to be special. His 2 goals this season were both crucial as they were both clinching goals in 1-0 games. The first of which was a spectacular volley against Ebbsfleet and the second a sublime chip in the last minute against Hungerford Town.

The 30 year old led City out at the weekend, and despite a hard fought performance from the midfielder, City couldn’t mount a comeback and unfortunately fell to a 3-1 defeat at the Kuflink Stadium.

“We win as a team and we lose as a team, and I think we were unlucky really.”

“We had a lot of positives and created chances, and on another day if you take them, you never know what might happen.”

“We’ll brush ourselves down and go again. Every game now is a big game, and we’ll take each one at a time.”

Oxford City’s next fixture is away against Billericay, and we hope to see as many of you there as possible.

C’mon you Hoops!
