Ross Jenkins looking forward to Oldfield reunion

August 25, 2022

Oxford City boss Ross Jenkins is looking forward to this weekend's meeting with Weymouth and former Hoops boss David Oldfield.

Jenkins took the City job after Oldfield departed for Weymouth in January 2021 and Jenkins has said that the reunion will add something extra to the tie.

Ross told www.oxfordcityfc: “It’ll be good to see David (Oldfield), I haven’t seen him since he left the club. We’ve spoken on the phone a couple of times but it’ll be good to have a catch up before the game."

“It’s going to be an important game for us and I think all the boys are looking forward to it, I think the weather should be nice so it should be a great occasion and entertaining game.

“He’ll know a little about us and we’ll know a little bit about him and I think it’ll be a difficult game. A tactical game with a few mind games in there but what we do know is that we work hard and they work hard.

“I've seen some of their footage. They're definitely due a win. We just need to make sure it’s not against us."

With a swift turnaround in games, City have two games in three days over the busy Bank Holiday Weekend. However, after Jenkins tinkered with the side against Concord, the gaffer has said that the whole squad will have to be ready to play their part over the weekend.

“When everyone’s performing it can make my job harder," Jenkins said,

"Only eleven players can play at a time so those boys who stepped in on Saturday did really well and it’s a real positive.

“We have to use our squad over the weekend, so if you’re starting Saturday or starting Monday, the bigger picture is the team.

“We need our players to get as many minutes as possible and when you have a very large squad it’s hard to give everyone the minutes they probably deserve and we want to reward our players with as many minutes as possible.

“It’s important. Everyone’s attitude from Saturday is positive, squad rotation will happen and hopefully it’ll work out well for us but it’s going to be a tough weekend for sure.”
