Ross Jenkins on Billericay Town defeat

Ross Jenkins on the 3-1 away defeat to Billericay Town last Saturday.

Ross Jenkins’ City side fell to a defeat at the New Lodge on Saturday afternoon by 3 goals to 1 against Billericay Town. Nana Owusu’s second half goal unfortunately wasn’t enough for the Hoops to mount a comeback late on in the game. City now sit in 5th place of the table as they look to maintain their spot in the play-offs. Here’s what Jenkins had to say after the game.

“It was tough. I thought we started the game off well; in the first 25 minutes we dominated possession and were in their half and final 3rd a lot.”

“The general play in the first half was really good, so a lot of positives to take from that.”

City looked dominant early in the game and displayed some excellent football until the hosts went ahead in the game via a long throw-in, which the home side capitalised on to gain more pressure, especially from crosses. City couldn’t make ‘Ricay pay, despite the away side playing some neat football.

“I thought we dominated in the first half quite well. We were fluid, confident and everyone looked upbeat. We were getting around their 18 yard box, we just couldn’t find that final pass.”

“I thought overall we played much better than them, but the throw in was a defining moment that swung in their favour.”

“It’s a tough one to take, but the actual performance in terms of what we’re trying to do is really encouraging, so there’s lots of positives.”

Jenkins remains positive on the whole, as the ethos and what City tried to accomplish with their playstyle was achieved, all that lacked was the result come the final whistle. Should City keep up their good showings of football, it will only be a matter of time before a good result is picked up.

“The manner in which we conceded was more disappointing than anything. I don’t think they’ve carved us open, they haven’t played 1-2’s around us and split us open with a great pass or shot.”

“It’s a tough one, as we played well in the first half, but don’t get anything out of the game.”

“At the end of it we need an end product, which we lacked today.”

Our next Vanarama National League South fixture is at home against Dartford in a huge play-off contender crunch match. We hope to see as many of you at the Velocity Stadium as possible.

C’mon you Hoops!
