ROSS JENKINS POST FC HALIFAX

The gaffer reviews away draw as City pick up their first point.

Oxford City Manager Ross Jenkins was pleased with his team's reaction, after the Hoops came from behind to earn their first point of the season away at FC Halifax Town in the Vanarama National League.

Rob Harker's first-half opener meant that City had to come from behind in the fixture. However, unlike previous performances where City have been unjustly robbed of some points, Pierre Fonkeu's goal secured a well-earned draw.

Speaking to www.oxfordcityfc.co.uk after the match, Jenkins said he was pleased with the second-half response.

"It's good to get a point on the road. I think in the second-half we did enough to win the game," said Jenkins.

"I don't think we were good enough in the first-half, we were looking sluggish, heavy and slow. I think after the first-half we needed a wake up call and we told the boys that. In the second-half it was a different team that came out.

"We should probably take more of those chances in the second-half, but overall a point is probably fair because we weren't good enough in the first-half. Second-half. Yes, we created chances, but we didn't put them away.

"It was a big confidence booster for us [coming from behind]. To concede a rubbish goal like we did was poor and it was rubbish from us.

"But, to then show the reaction to put things right, big credit must go to the boys. It's easy to go under in those situations but we didn't, and I was pleased with that.

"To go away with a point is better than leaving with no points.

"If we can replicate that second-half then we'll have no problems. The boys know that, and they're disappointed not to come away with more today."

The match wasn't without its controversial moments. Canice Carroll thought he had given City their first win in the fifth tier when he headed home from close-range, but the officials disagreed and play continued.

With no goal-line technology in the National League, we'll never know. The gaffer shared his thoughts on the situation.

"A lot of players were saying that it [Canice Carroll's ghost no-goal] crossed the line.

"The fans were going crazy thinking it was definitely over the line but we'll never know. The linesman said it definitely didn't go over the line, so it was tough to take at the end, but pleasing to react and show the performance we did in the second-half as I thought we were the better team.

"We're just starting to get into our stride now, so hopefully with a few more games under our belt, we'll learn a lot more, the boys will keep getting fitter and we'll keep putting on good displays. That's the aim, that's the target and the boys know it."
