Ross Jenkins previews clash with South Shields

Jenkins praises fans as he hopes to get back to winning ways.

Oxford City Manager Ross Jenkins is hoping to end a tough spell as the Hoops make the longest journey of their season to face off against South Shields in the Vanarama National League North (7:45pm KO.)

Jenkins is looking to bounce back from a draw on the weekend with Alfreton Town as City conceded a late equaliser after being reduced to ten men. He said: "We didn't lose the game but it feels like a loss. It's a good sign that the boys feel like that.

"South Shields will be a different type of game and we have to prepare the boys mentally and physically and tactically for that. It's a long journey so we have to try and stay as fresh as we possibly can and give ourselves the best possible chance come tomorrow evening."

Jenkins was keen to recognise and appreciate the fans who will be making the journey to South Shields and support the side. The support from fans has been incredible throughout the season and Jenkins was pleased to thank them.

He said: "They've done it once already and they were there when the game was called off. We trained on the pitch and they tried to make the most of it.

"The fact that they have to do it again on a Tuesday night, is difficult for a playing team but for a fan is even worse. They don't have the luxury of going on a coach or putting their feet up. They spend money from the week that they've earned and if there is anything we can do to help and improve their experience then we will do so.

"it is important that we address that and address the fact that they were at Alfreton. They've supported us all season and I thought they gave it everything at Alfreton. They saw that we were hard done by after a tough refereeing decision, so they see what we see and we are on the same page.

"We will stick together and it there are five, ten or fifteen fans who travel with the side that it's always more than enough to motivate the boys."
