The Hoops went toe-to-toe with their League One opponents for the entirety of the ninety minutes despite a gulf of 65 spaces between the two clubs.
Alfie Potter’s late goal had given the Hoops a glimmer of hope before conceding again later on in the game, but Jenkins says his side showed that they can compete at a higher level.
“In the Second-half I thought we were first class.” Jenkins said.
“I thought some of our play proved that some of our boys are capable of playing at this level. I hope both sets of fans can see that we’ve got some really good players.
“I thought in the first-half we were still in the game but the second goal killed us a little bit and it changed the team talk at half-time, because at 1-0 you go into the changing room quite happy.
“I think we stuck to our game plan. People might say our game plan didn’t work because we lost, but the fundamentals and basics of how we want to play were there.
“I think we have to take the result out of the equation and remember that we’ve competed well against a top League One side and that some of our play was first class.
“There was a moment where we kept the ball really well and they couldn’t get near us and the boys need to walk out with their heads held high because there were really good performances from everyone in the changing room.”
