City have bounced back from a sticky spell and put together a five-game unbeaten run. However, the challenge for the Hoops is turning draw into wins, with all five of City's past five games ending level.
Nevertheless, football's oldest cup competition offers the Hoops an ideal chance to get back to winning ways, with the first round proper (and all the riches that could bring) waiting for Saturday's victor.
It will be no easy task, though. Hornchurch have cup pedigree, overcoming the odds to win the FA Trophy two seasons ago and with the Urchins flying in the Isthmian Premier Division, the Hoops will have to be at their very best.
“It's going to be another difficult game." said Jenkins.
"We've had previous clashes with them in recent years where we lost on penalties, so we know it's going to be a competitive game.
"It's important we address this as it were any other game, it doesn't matter on the competition, the level, or the opposition so the prep this week has been really positive. It's important we take that into Saturday now."
“They’ve got momentum, they’re doing well in their league and I think they’ve improved. We’ll have to be fully on our game to get anything out of the tie, I think the boys understand that.
“I think the Plymouth Parkway game opened their eyes as well, against a really strong and competitive team who took us to the wire but in the end we showed some quality and got through.
“It is important that we address it properly as it’ll be a real tough one, but one all the players and staff at the club are looking forward to.”
With the dangling carrot of the first round, you'd be forgiven for thinking that the result is the only thing that matters in the cup. However, for Jenkins, it's about much more than that.
“We want to win, but I’m a big believer in performances and I believe performances go further than just winning.
“You can adapt a style of play to win a game, but I think building a foundation and building blocks and a good solid base for the football club to go forward is important for me.
“We want to win but do it in the right manner and a good performance brings a win. We’ve managed to get some good results over the last five games and we’re unbeaten. However, we need to turn those draws into wins."
