Ross Jenkins and Andy Ballard have now overseen 4 games since taking the reins, and have picked up 9 points from a possible 12. The latest 3 points came in Saturday’s 3-0 victory on the road at Hampton and Richmond. City travelled to the Beveree Stadium in 4th place, however off the back of that game, they have now moved up to 3rd. Jenkins gave us his thoughts after the match.
“We came here with a game plan and executed it very well in very difficult conditions and the pitch wasn’t the best, but both teams have to play on it.”
“In the second half you could tell it was difficult for them to get out and we applied some good pressure.”
City struggled to create many dangerous chances in the first half. However, after the break they came out firing, and ended up notching 3 times in the second 45. Goals from Elliot Benyon, Joe Iaciofano and Harvey Bradbury wrapped up the game and secured all 3 points for the Hoops.
“We had a lot of our play in their half, and we were defensively very strong.”
“It was also good to get 3 strikers on the scoresheet.”
At just 2-0, and with not long left on the clock, Ben Dudzinski stepped up and made a crucial penalty save to preserve the clean sheet and keep City ahead in the closing stages. Not only did he save the initial penalty, but also got up quickly allowing him to catch the rebounded effort. This 3-0 victory takes City’s clean sheet tally up to 9 this season.
“It’s massive, it was a big save at a big time. If you give them a goal then, they’re getting up. A goalie is there to make saves, and he’s done his job and we’re very proud of him.”
“We’ll train Tuesday and Thursday, we’ll make sure the boys rest and recover, we’ll train hard and go again.”
Our next fixture is against Hemel Hempstead at the Velocity Stadium and we hope to see as many of you there as possible.
C’mon you Hoops!
