The Hoops showcased some superb football in the first-half, going into the interval two goals ahead thanks to goals from Alfie Potter and Zac McEachran.
However, the team had to dig deep once again to survive a late barrage from the hosts after Nathan Smith’s goal had dragged them back into the game.
“It was a really tough afternoon, we knew it’d be a real challenge.” Said the Hoops boss.
“Fortunately the game was on today so we had to take advantage of the game. We turned up with a really good attitude, had a positive mind-set and I thought in the first half we were different class.
“We scored some really good goals and the final moments of the game were really scrappy but that was something we anticipated as Concord were going for it and committing men forward, but I thought to a man we stood up to the challenge and defended as a team.
City’s first-half performance was some of the most impressive of the season, with the team linking up well to cut through Concord’s defence. In the past, the Hoops have possibly lacked that cutting edge to kill games off but that’s something that Jenkins sees is improving.
“I said to the boys, I’m very critical of the way we play sometimes because of the players we have in the changing room.
“We know our standards, we know how good we can be and I thought today in large parts of the first-half we showed the quality that was in our team.
“The only thing I was disappointed with was that we could’ve taken our chances in the first-half to put the game to bed, but if anyone was watching the first-half they’d have been very pleased to watch that performance.
“The style of football is really important to me and the manner in which we scored our goals was really important. The second-half was also really pleasing, we had a really difficult fifteen minute period when balls were loaded into the box, but fair play to the boys they stood up to the challenge.
“Concord were really going for it and they made it difficult, but to see the game out, on the road, at a difficult place to go to and get the three points was really important.
“We’re always learning. We see these boys twice a week, sometimes once a week so we can’t flood them with information. We have to make sure the boys are doing their homework and that preparation is always on point from them and us staff.
“I think today was a really good marker of our footballing ability but also our grittiness to see out games and come through as a team, as that was a team performance.”
