Oxford City Manager Sam Cox Is approaching Saturday’s Vanarama National League North fixture with South Shields with a positive mind-set.
Despite Tuesday night’s defeat away at Curzon Ashton, the City gaffer is remaining upbeat, and has expressed his delight in the ‘never say die’ attitude his squad have shown in the opening three games.
Saturday’s game won’t be easy, though. The City boss has labelled South Shields as “the best footballing side in the division” and has said that his side will have to be at their best to get something out of the game.
“I think we approach the game in a positive manner.” Cox told www.oxfordcityfc.co.uk
“We understand that South Shields are probably the best footballing side in the division and one of the favourites to go up.
“We certainly recognise their threats, but we go into the game with a positive mind-set.
“Obviously, it was a disappointing result in mid week, but we’ve watched the game back and analysed it.
“We have to take a lot of positives from the first-half performance with the chances that were created.
“At the moment, its fine margins. We lost by one goal to nil, but that had nothing to do with lack of attitude, endeavour or enthusiasm.
“So, like I said before, that’s a fantastic trait to have in any side and I’m really confident and positive we will get that first win under our belts. It’s just a matter of time.
“You look at the first two games, and the team have that ‘never say die’ attitude in abundance.
“We have principles that we like to stick to, and so do South Shields. Expect a good game of football from both sides and again, it’ll come down to how clinical we are in the final third.”
