A new era begins at Court Place Farm.

Oxford City FC are delighted to announce the appointment of Sam Cox as the new men’s first team Manager.

The 33-year-old joins the Hoops after a successful spell as interim manager at Wealdstone last season, where he helped the Stones defy the odds to secure survival in the National League on the final day of the season.

Sam joins the club with a wealth of coaching experience both domestically and internationally.

Holding the prestigious UEFA A coaching license, he has coached in Tottenham Hotspur’s academy and also as assistant manager of the Guyana national team.

As a player, Sam came through the ranks at Tottenham Hotspur alongside the likes of Harry Kane, Ryan Mason and Andros Townsend before leaving White Hart Lane to join Barnet.

After the expiry of his contract with the Bees, he had successful spells with Hayes & Yeading, Boreham Wood & Wealdstone, where he won end of season accolades at each club.

His impressive playing career saw him accumulate almost 350 appearances in senior football with 32 of those coming internationally with Guyana as captain.

Upon his appointment as the new Hoops boss, Cox said: “I’m delighted to get the deal over the line.

“My first impressions of this football club are tremendous. There’s some really good people around the place and after years of playing against Oxford, I know how well run the club is.

“I’m really looking forward to getting going, starting the season and trying to take this football club to where it deserves and needs to be.”

Oxford City owner Justin Merritt said: “We’re really pleased to welcome Sam to Oxford City as our new men’s first team manager.

“We were extremely impressed with the quality of candidates throughout an in-depth recruitment process, but Sam was the stand-out candidate.

“He is a fantastic fit for what we are trying to achieve, with a strong coaching CV with the likes of Tottenham and Wealdstone.

“Sam also brings international experience with his role as assistant manager of Guyana and will build upon the possession based style of football we have developed over as a club over recent seasons.”

Welcome to Oxford City, Sam!
