Following a fourth win on the bounce, it would be fair to say that confidence is high in the Oxford City camp.
After an impressive 3-0 victory over Welling United in their last outing, the Hoops extended their unbeaten start to 2023 with a fourth consecutive win.
Amongst a side in brilliant form, Aaron Williams-Bushell has become a cornerstone in the Hoops’ squad since joining from Maldon and Tiptree in the Summer of 2022. The versatile full-back gave an account of the positivity in the changing room at the moment.
“Everyone is buzzing!” Williams-Bushell said.
“We all stay positive regardless even when we’ve gone through a little period where we haven’t been winning but I feel that everyone knew that our purple patch was going to come soon.
“I think everyone’s just focused on one game at a time because we don’t want to get too ahead of ourselves but we’re just going to keep playing the way we’re playing.”
The 23-year-old has made his mark in the side accumulating a total of 31 appearances so far this season whilst netting on three occasions for City including a last-gasp winner at Cheshunt earlier in the season. Speaking on the step up from his former club, Williams-Bushell acknowledged the jump in quality.
“I actually think it’s a big jump. Coming up two leagues was never going to be easy but I definitely think the boys and the manager and everyone at Oxford helped me settle in really fast.
“Playing in a more competitive league with probably better players and better quality, you’d assume it’s harder but because I’m around such good players, everyone makes it a bit easier for myself.”
With the Hoops set to welcome promotion rivals, Worthing, to the Raw Charging Stadium, Williams-Bushell described the positive mentality behind the squad ahead of a crunch fixture. Williams-Bushell said, “With us we always try to focus on ourselves.”
“We don’t really pay too much attention to the opposition because I feel like we all believe in ourselves and if we execute our game plan, it doesn’t really matter what the opposition does. We look at every game as winnable and I think Worthing will be no different.”
Williams-Bushell added, “They did get the better of us last time but I feel that game could’ve gone either way. We were just unlucky that it didn’t go in our favour but hopefully we can change that on Saturday.”
