Oxford City embark on their first away trip in three weeks as they visit Peterborough Sports on Tuesday night (7:45pm KO.) in the Vanarama National League North.
City were left ruing their missed opportunities as they failed to take anything from the fixture on the weekend against Leamington.
Earlier in the season when these sides met, Peterborough won 3-1 at The MGroup Stadium. A second half Josh Parker penalty wasn’t enough to kickstart a comeback for the Hoops.
Having navigated a series of difficult fixtures, City will be hoping to pick up points as they are now in a run of games against sides who sit in their vicinity in the league table.
The Hoops now begin a run of three successive away trips and will be hoping to kick It off with a win in North Cambridgeshire.
Lincoln Road – Tuesday 11th February – 7:45pm
Vanarama National League North
While Peterborough’s form over the last five doesn’t seem too impressive having lost three of their last four games. However, over the last eight, the Turbines have been performing above their season averages.
They have conceded 0.75 goals per game over that span and not conceded more than once in any of the last eight and they’ve scored 1.25 goals per game, improving on their season average of 1.16.
Three 1-0 defeats in their last four will be of concern to Managers Luke Steele and Michael Gash, the most recent coming away to Brackley.
After a tricky start the season, Peterborough have moved themselves well into mid table and are looking to propel themselves even higher.
The Hoops will still be reeling from the weekend’s defeat to Leamington which City could easily have won, but they will eager to correct it and travel to Peterborough with every intention of taking all three points.
City haven’t lost away from home in their last three and the most recent away trip saw them travel to Chorley in midweek only to be held to a 0-0 draw.
The away form for the Hoops is better than the home form as they have 1.23 points per game away from home.
On away results alone, City sit 17th and this game is an important one if City are to solidify the gap from the bottom four.
Manager Luke Steele will be best known for being an ex-professional goalkeeper who has played at the highest level, both in England and across Europe.
He notably made over 200 appearances for Barnsley and also 66 appearances for Greek side Panathinaikos, playing in the Europa League.
Since returning to his hometown of Peterborough, Steele has played locally for a number of clubs as a striker, including at Deeping Rangers where he was a first team regular.
Luke manages the Turbines alongside Michael Gash looking to steer the side to the National League having finished 15th in the National League North 2023/24 Season.
Gyasi is Sports' top scorer so far this season and signed with the Turbines at the beginning of the season after impressing Sports in pre-season and proving himself quite the marksman at Boston United.
Having been monitored for quite a while by Peterborough Sports, Michael Gyasi is a valuable addition to the squad, Gyasi brings pace and experience with a calmness that is perfect for this league.
Gyasi already has eight to his name this campaign, with the latest of the bunch coming from the spot in a 3-1 win at home over King’s Lynn.
The 27-year-old striker has an impressive resume having enjoyed spells at King’s Lynn, Chesterfield, Boston United and Nuneaton after graduating through the Leicester City academy.
