Harris and Crouch at the double as Women beat Woodley

Oxford City Women got back to winning ways with an excellent 7-1 win over Woodley United Ladies this afternoon at the MGroup Stadium.

Two goals before the break from the livewire Emily Harris and second half strikes from Ellie White, Ellie Walecki, captain Georgina Tayman and two late goals from Kitty Crouch gave Connor Walton's a comfortable win despite a single consolation for the visitors.

City set the tone from the first minute and  never relinquished their grip on the game. The breakthrough came after 13 minutes when Bille Bough-French, running the game from centre-half, powered in a 30 yard free kick that smacked against the right hand post, allowing Harris to tap home the rebound from close range to make it 1-0

Woodley dug In and made it tough for City after that without creating many chances and the only surprise was that it took until four minutes before the break before City doubled their advantage. This time it was Emma Donohoe who created the opening with a typical surge down the left and a low cross that Harris dispatched from ten yards out for her second of the afternoon.

There were further chances after the break, the biggest one for the hard-working White, denied by the onrushing keeper, before sub Walecki made the points safe with a chipped third goal that she will say was a shot but was a cross, and then two minutes later White got the goal she deserved as she strolled clear and rolled the ball casually home for her tenth goal of the season.

On 64 it was 5-0 as skipper Tayman got in on the act, slamming the ball high into the net after Donohoe had unselfishly cut the ball back as defenders slithered in to her path

Woodley had battled hard and deserved a consolation which came after 67 minutes with a clever chipped effort from the left that gave keeper Keira Maskell no chance but on 80 City were five ahead again as Crouch cleverly fired across the keeper with a fine finish to make it 6-1 and then on 90 Crouch grabbed her second when another Bough-French howitzer was pushed into her path at close range.

A terrific performance with one or two younger players starting to get opportunities at this stage of the season and senior players stepping up and shining  very brightly indeed
