Oxford City Women are back in action in the Chairman’s Cup on Sunday at The MGroup Stadium as they host Wimborne Town in the quarter-final (2pm KO).
Oxford City defender Emma Donohoe has said “the girls are buzzing for the game this weekend”. Her excitement echoes that of Manager Connor Walton and this cup fixture comes as a welcome break from league games.
The Hoops are coming off the back of a comprehensive 3-0 victory over bottom of the league, Selsey, away from home and this result gives the side a lot of confidence going into the weekend. Donohoe said: “It was great to keep a clean sheet.
“Speaking as a defender, it’s always important to be solid at the back and this really helps to boost the confidence of the girls going into the final stretch of the season.
“Momentum is a big factor in football and going into a knockout game on the back of a victory is big for us. We have trained really well as a group and the girls are buzzing for the game this weekend.”
As the season draws to a close, the Hoops only have three league games remaining, the goals are very clear for them.
Donohoe said: “We obviously want to win this weekend and progress to another semi-final. We have the final for the County Cup coming and it would be amazing to win that. It has been a goal of ours all season.
“To finish the year with a couple of trophies would be amazing and we want to win every game in the league and finish as high as we can.
“But we have to take it one game at a time and the results will come.”
