LEWIS MICCIO | WE TAKE IT ONE GAME AT A TIME
Oxford City made it back-to-back wins in Vanarama National League South after a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Cheshunt last weekend.
For the Hoops, attention now turns to what is certain to be another challenging battle on Saturday, when Ross Jenkins’ side make the trip to Dulwich Hamlet.
City wing-back Lewis Miccio was pleased with the way the team fought to secure victory against Cheshunt, in a game where perhaps they weren’t at their best, “Three points at this stage of the season is always the most important thing,” said Miccio.
“It wasn’t our best team performance, but it’s a really good win to keep some momentum going into the next game, which is huge. Hopefully we can build on last weekend and get another three points, but also build on the performance and get back to what we normally do.”
Now seven months into his Oxford City career, the Australian has cemented his spot in the manager’s starting eleven, after struggling with injury earlier in the season.
Miccio said, “The first few months were a little bit frustrating, I was in and out of the team with some injuries here and there.
"Since then, I’ve stuck at it and the manager has had a lot of faith in me and put me in the squad, and in a position that I haven’t played for a number of years - but I’m very happy with how my season has turned out.
"Since the turn of the year it’s been really good, I’m playing consistently and I think I’m just improving with every game.
"Overall this season’s been really enjoyable with all of the lads, they’re a great bunch and I get along with them really well.”
The Hoops will have to contend with another relegation-battling side in the form of Dulwich Hamlet on Saturday, and Miccio is all too aware of the threat that they could pose, “It's similar to Cheshunt; they’re desperate for points, but so are we.
"It’s going to be a challenge just like last weekend, but we just need to focus on coming away with the win - that’s really it.
"We’ve just got to focus on ourselves and do what we do best. We can’t really think about much else other than the task at hand, which is just coming away with the win.”
“The morale is good, and there’s a lot of self-belief in this squad, definitely,” Miccio said, when asked about the feeling within the dressing room at the moment.
”I think we’re all confident that we play really good football, and on our day we’re favourites to win most games of football in this league.
"The morale is good, but we’re also all really focused on the task at hand which is each week as it comes.
"We take it one game at a time and just focus on getting the three points now, and then we’ll worry about what happens after.”
