MATCH PREVIEW | BANBURY UNITED WOMEN v OXFORD CITY WOMEN

January 20, 2023

Oxford City Women’s Manager Aliyah Anthony is hopeful that her side can progress to the next round of the Oxfordshire FA's Women's Cup against Banbury United on Sunday.

An impressive win over Procision Oxford secured the Hoops' progression to the next round of the competition but the team will be eager to get back to winning ways after defeat to Eastleigh Women in the league last weekend.

The Hoops have previous in this competition after winning the trophy last year, City Women have also won the competition a record 17 times making them the most successful team left in the hat. However, Manager Anthony is not taking notice of past glories and is fully focused on Sunday's game.

"Banbury will be a tough test." Said Anthony.

"It's a difficult ground to go to so the surface will bring its own problems that we'll have to overcome. They're used to their surface so we'll have to be at our best to get anything from the game.

"Sunday's defeat to Eastleigh was a tough one to take but the girls dug deep, played to their max and continued to work as a team throughout the ninety minutes.

"They've improved so much as a team and the cup competitions give us a nice break from league action and a chance to show how far we've developed as a squad.

"It didn't go our way on Sunday but we've refocused and we're looking forward to the cup."
