Match Preview: Ebbsfleet Utd vs Oxford City

Tom Mallams • March 10, 2022

City travel to the Kuflink stadium to take on Ebbsfleet United in the Vanarama National League South for the first match of the Ross Jenkins era!

Saturday is bound to be a tough first fixture for Jenkins and the Hoops squad as City look to carry on their unbeaten run against fellow promotion challengers Ebbsfleet, who are searching for their third win in as many games.

The Hoops make it three unbeaten.

A tough run of fixtures for the Hoops this week has continued to test the waters. On Tuesday, a late Joe Iaciofano penalty claimed a well earned point at the Clarence Park against fellow promotion hopefuls St Albans City.

The result sees the Hoops extend their mini-unbeaten run to three games ahead of Saturday’s fixture against 5th placed Ebbsfleet United. A victory would see the gap between the sides increase to seven points.

Ross Jenkins was announced as the new Head Coach at Oxford City after a solid run of results as caretaker boss, Andy Ballard joins as assistant, and both look to start their tenure off in style against a difficult side.

A change in the tides at Ebbsfleet?

Ebbsfleet made it two wins on the bounce with 2-0 victories against Eastbourne Borough and Bath City as the Fleet have bounced back from two defeats to Slough and Havant & Waterlooville in February.

Dennis Kutrieb’s outfit have been a force to reckon with over the course of this season in VNLS and Saturday's test is bound to be one of the toughest tests of the season.

Head to head

30th November 2021: Oxford City 1-0 Ebbsfleet Utd

29th April 2017: Ebbsfleet Utd 1-0 Oxford City

3rd December 2016: Oxford City 1-3 Ebbsfleet Utd

A Reece Fleet wondergoal was the difference between the two sides in the reverse fixture as Oxford City took all three points at the Velocity Stadium. If that was not enough for the visitors, Ebbsfleet United were reduced to 10-men following Tobi Adebayo-Rowling’s late dismissal.

Ones to watch:

George Harmon

The wing-back has been an integral part of the City outfit over the course of the season, both going forward and tracking back.

His pace and delivery into the box have given many oppositions right backs nightmares. Evidently shown with his two assists in the 5-0 thumping against the Angels.

Dominic Poleon

The forward has been vital in Ebbsfleet’s promotion challenge.

The Fleet’s number 14, previously of Leeds United, Bury, Sheffield United and many more EFL clubs, signed for Ebbsfleet in February last year. A forward with pace in abundance currently sits at the top of the goalscoring charts for United, with 2 in his last 2 in the VNLS.
