Match Preview | Oxford City v King's Lynn Town

Wills Hatton • October 21, 2024

City look to knock Linnets off their perch.

City look to continue their momentum after a dominant display on the weekend, as they host King’s Lynn in the Vanarama National League North.

The Hoops will be hoping to make it back-to-back wins against a tough opposition but having built on the progress and performance away to Scunthorpe with a brilliant performance against Warrington, City should be high on confidence coming into this game.

Ross Jenkins’ side have played some scintillating stuff in the past couple weeks and have the opportunity to pull themselves out of the bottom four and further up the league.

King’s Lynn also come into the game with good league form, their comfortable win over Buxton on Saturday gives them a real chance at moving into the promotion places, but the injury to striker Jonny Margetts has thrown a spanner in the works.

City can also make it back-to-back home wins; the last home fixture (in the league) was the 3-0 win over Needham Market a month ago.

FIXTURE DETAILS

Oxford City v King's Lynn Town

Court Place Farm – Tuesday 22nd October – 19:45
Vanarama National League North

Form

OXFORD CITY - L W L D W

The last two results, a dominant win over Warrington on the weekend and a draw away to Scunthorpe, will give City the confidence they need to take all three points from this game.

The Hoops’ home form is better than their away form, having picked up five points through the first five home games.

Needham Market was the last time City played at Court Place Farm, and they have only lost once since as the Hoops begin to find some form in the National League North.

The game against Warrington on the weekend marked the second clean sheet of the season and continuing the momentum will give City a massive boost for the next few weeks.

KING'S LYNN TOWN - D L D W W

Back-to-back wins against Buxton and Darlington, both at home bring King’s Lynn to Court Place Farm in a rich vein of form.

They have conceded one league goal in their previous three outings and haven’t lost in the league since early September.

The Linnets haven’t lost an away league fixture since their fist of the season when they were beaten 3-0 by Alfreton.

Currently sat 6th in the NLN, King’s Lynn will be hoping they can continue their run of form when they travel south on Tuesday night.

ONE TO WATCH - Ross Crane

With star striker Jonny Margetts sidelined for a possible ten weeks, King’s Lynn boss, Adam Lakeland has turned to Ross Crane to fill the hole up top.

He opened the scoring on the weekend for the Linnets as they beat Buxton 2-0. This was Crane’s second in as many league appearances. His first came as he sealed the victory in a 2-1 comeback over Darlington.

Crane began his career in the Colchester academy before signing for AFC Sudbury. He then moved into the football league, signing for Bury Town and then moving to Ipswich in 2020.

The 22-year-old also has plenty of experience at this level, playing for Needham Market, scoring seven goals in 35 appearances for the marketmen in 2022/23.

THE MANAGER - Adam Lakeland

This is Lakeland’s second season in charge of the Linnets. The 39-year-old left Curzon Ashton to join King’s Lynn.

Lakeland began his coaching career in 2006, at Blackburn Rovers, in charge of their women’s team, before moving to Curzon Ashton. His first spell at the club resulted in him moving to Northwich Victoria and Farsley Celtic where he enjoyed huge success.

Lakeland returned to Curzon Ashton in 2021, six years after he left, but would ultimately join King’s Lynn when Mark Hughes was sacked following a poor start to last season.
