FIXTURE DETAILS

Oxford City vs Chesterfield

Vanarama National League
The RAW Charging Stadium, Oxford
Tuesday 15th August, 19:45

Referee: Steven Copeland   Assistants: David Hutton & Mark Chalkley   Fourth Official: David Nicholson

The Spireites will be backed by a strong travelling contingent from Derbyshire, as they look to continue their perfect start to the season. However, the Hoops will be looking to beat the odds with a coupon-busting result and earn their first points of the campaign.

On Saturday, Ross Jenkins' side showed that they had learnt their lessons from the opening 5-2 defeat to Aldershot. However, despite a resilient display against a recently relegated Rochdale side, Ian Henderson's 71st minute strike consigned City to defeat.

Chesterfield on the other hand seem to have put their play-off heartbreak behind them. Their Wembley defeat to Notts County back in May denied them a return to the EFL, but wins against Dorking Wanderers and AFC Fylde has proven that they're worthy pre-season title favourites.

TEAM NEWS

Manager Ross Jenkins confirmed that Zac McEachran was left out of Saturday's squad as he recovers from a virus. Furthermore, after Joe Wilson returned from injury to make the bench, McEachran remains City's only absentee.

Paul Cook has been busy in the transfer market and has made a number of high-quality additions to his side. Striker Will Grigg and Midfielders Tom Naylor & Michael Jacobs are the stand-out additions and have already made their mark for the Spireites.

James Berry has recently joined the club from Macclesfield FC and could be in line to make his debut on Tuesday evening.

RECENT FORM

Oxford City - L L

It's been a difficult start to life in the National League for City, but Ross Jenkins' side have shown that they have what it takes to compete at the level despite two defeats.

Lessons were learnt from the 5-2 opening day defeat away at Aldershot, and although a narrow 1-0 defeat to recently relegated Rochdale will sting, there are plenty of positives (and lessons) to reflect on. The clash against Chesterfield will undoubtably be one of the toughest the team will face all season, but will once again be a valuable step on the journey as the Hoops continue to find their bearings in the fifth tier.

Chesterfield - W W

Two games. Six Points. Eight goals.

It's been a near-perfect start for Paul Cook's Spireites. The only slight negative being that they've conceded five goals.

They left it late to beat Dorking on the opening day, showing great character to snatch three points in the 90+3rd minute. However, they made sure there was no drama involved in their second victory away at AFC Fylde, going 4-0 up by the 49th minute.

Liam Mandeville has started the season like a man on fire with three goals to his name already, and he'll be hoping to add more goals on Tuesday evening.

HAVE WE MET BEFORE?

This will be the very first meeting between the two teams.

ONE TO WATCH - Ryan Colclough

He may not be the name that springs to mind straight away when it comes to the array of talent in the Chesterfield squad. However, Ryan Colclough is proving to be one of the Spireites stand-out performers.

The winger has scored twice this season (one goal in each game) and adds both quality and experience to the squad. Colclough came through the ranks at Crewe Alexandra but he was quickly snapped up by Wigan Athletic after impressing at Gresty Road. A loan move to MK Dons & a permanent move Scunthorpe (both in the EFL at the time) followed before he dropped into the National League with Altrincham.

There he found his feet again and now that Chesterfield have picked him up, he carried on where he left off. Could he be the man who takes Chesterfield back to the EFL?
