Oxford City Women look to get back to winning ways when they welcome Woodley United to the MGroup Stadium on Sunday (2pm).
City pushed unbeaten league leaders Ascot all the way last time out before losing 3-1, a result that puts Ascot on the verge of promotion and leaves City in fourth place. As Coach Connor Walton told us, Sunday is a chance to put a few things right against fifth placed Woodley.
“I thought we played really well last Sunday” he told us. “Ascot have that confidence about them but we weren’t intimidated and for long periods of the game we looked the more likely side to score.
“We have had a couple of injuries and that has allowed us to get some game time for younger players and that is another thing that is so encouraging. The way we are building Women’s football here means we are building for the future and there’s a clear pathway for players to progress and play for the first team.
“We’ve had two good games against Woodley this season. They won 2-1 here in the FA Cup but then we scored six at their place in the league in a really good performance.
“Hopefully we play like that again and can get a win in an entertaining game.”
It’s just £3 to watch Oxford City Women at the MGroup Stadium this season with the bar and food hatch open and a friendly welcome always assured.
