“We started out in 2012. I’d worked for other businesses and wanted to start out on my own which was a big step. That was in Worminghall and City owner Justin and his wife Louise lived nearby at the time and we would bump into each other in the local pub and Justin always asked how the business was doing. He was growing things at the football club and making the move up from player, to coach, to Manager and then owner so we were all kind of starting our business journeys at around the same time.

“One of the key things is having the right people around you, some to add experience some to add new ideas but always people you like and trust. Teambuilding rules apply in business and football! We provide all forms of tree surgery: tree works, tree surveys, stump grinding, site clearance, fencing, tree planting and so on. Most people know how hard it can be to remove or dig out a tree or remove a fence and we provide a cost-effective and really efficient way of doing things like that, and we’re really aware of the safety laws.

“The business has grown and flourished. Technology has improved and we are always keen to be ahead of that. We have an office in the centre of Thame now for all the business side of things and I am there quite a lot but I still love being out on site, in the same way I think Justin would probably still love to be out there on the pitch if he could. 

“A couple of years ago I came to a game and saw the way the club works with the community and that’s really important to us as well. We want to help that grow so we became club partners and one side of the ground now has the AJB Tree Care Stand. I stand there on a matchday some times and think back to those early days and how far we have come.

“We are ambitious and the business is growing all the time. We work all over Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire now, with businesses, organisations and domestic cases and if people mention Oxford City when they ring for a quote I’m sure we’ll be able to find them a discount.”
