MATCH REPORT: Carterton 0-3 Oxford City

May 8, 2022

Oxford City Women were crowned OFA Women's Cup champions with a 3-0 victory over Carterton at the Velocity Stadium.

Goals from Gabby Heath, Jess Biggerstaff and Amelia Alves-Martins sealed the victory to secure the cup.

It took a while for the Hoops to find their stride in the game but after the ten minute mark Ben Lucas' side started to take control of the game.

Ellie White came close with a long-range effort and Eve Blake also fired a free-kick wide of the target.

The deadlock was broken in the 34th minute. White fired a powerful effort towards goal which the Goalkeeper could only parry into the path of Heath, who steered home to give City the lead.

Soon after the Hoops doubled their lead. Amelia Alves-Martins did superbly down the right-wing to beat her marker before she squared the ball across the box find Jess Biggerstaff, who was left with the simplest of finishes to tap home the second.

After the interval it was one way traffic in City's favour. Carterton Goalkeeper Lyndsey Burdock kept her side in the game with multiple saves to deny the Hoops. Summer Major, Ellie White and Jess Biggerstaff were all foiled by Burdock in one v one situations.

However, the trophy was secured with five minutes to go when Alves-Martins netted a well deserved goal. She ran onto a loose ball and beat the Carterton backline with her pace before striking a powerful shot into the net via the inside of the post.

A superb win from the team. Well done girls!
