Gabby Heath, Jess Biggerstaff and Amelia Alves-Martins were all on the scoresheet for the Hoops as Ben Lucas’ side end their season with silverware. 

After the game we caught up with Manager Ben Lucas for his thoughts on the game. 

“The group is brilliant,” said Lucas. 

“The team are so close and they’ve got some great characters in there.

“The result was the icing of the cake, it’s been a difficult season but the team have stuck at it and it’s nice to finish the season with a trophy. 

“We’ve got a group of girls that will run through brick walls for each other. I challenged the girls at the end of the game that this is just a stepping stone, this can’t be the pinnacle of what they’ll do at Oxford City FC. 

“They’ve really improved over the last few weeks but there’s still a lot to come from them and this can be the first of many more high points going forward.”

It wasn’t just the forwards & attacking style of play that caught the eye, City’s defence was also in top form to keep out a number of dangerous attacks. 

Kim Slessor was at the very heart of the backline in the final and she was full of praise for the collective group after the final whistle. 

“I think after the season we've had it was really nice to see everyone coming together and putting in a really solid shift as a unit.” Said Slessor.

“We’ve got such a strong group of girls after such a tough season and i think to finish with a win like that everyone really deserved it so I’m really happy.

“We are such a tight-knit group, I don’t think I’ve been part of a team that’s been so close and we’ve only been playing together for under twelve months. 

“Everybody deserves this and it’s so nice to win with a group of friends.”
