Oxford City ended their four match losing streak as they held second placed Scunthorpe United to a goalless draw at the MGroup Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
In truth, it was a match that lacked clear cut chances at both ends, with defences winning out across the 90 minutes.
Both sides looked bright in spells during the first period, and Callum Roberts looked lively for the visitors on the right hand side, although the Hoops dealt with most of what he had to throw at them.
Mark Beck saw one chance over the bar when he took the ball down back to goal, but couldn't keep his shot down when he shot on the turn.
City's best chance of the half came right on the stroke of the break when Aaron Drewe's burst down the right saw him beat the offside trap and the ball across saw Alfie Potter try and take control, but the visitors cleared just as he was about to shoot.
Half-Time: Oxford City 0-0 Scunthorpe United
The second period was largely the same, however the later the half wore on, the more end to end it became.
Before that, however, there was a scare for the Hoops within 10 minutes of the restart.
Firstly, Laurie Walker got down well to make a smart save from Alfie Beestin's shot, before less than a minute later, Beestin went through on goal, but was denied by a superb last ditch challenge from Drewe as he pulled the trigger.
City looked dangerous on the counter, and moments later Jayden Carbon looked to have been played through on goal, but he was tracked by Maxim Kouogun who did enough to put the young striker off as he looked to shoot.
With Scunthorpe making attacking changes during the half, this allowed City chances on the break. With 15 minutes to play, good work down the left saw Josh Ashby play a ball across goal, but Andre Burley's header drifted over the bar.
But down the other end, and Walker was again called into action as he did well to push Mo Fadera's shot wide of the goal with 5 minutes to play.
The end-to-end nature of the latter stages then saw City up the other end, but Chi Ezennolim's late cross evaded any Hooped shirts in the centre.
Certainly a valuable point for the Hoops against a side challenging at the other end of the table, and will be looking to build on that in the coming weeks...
