MATCH REPORT: Oxford City 5-3 Chippenham Town

December 13, 2022

A Joe Iaciofano hat-trick helped Oxford City secure three points in an emphatic 5-3 victory over Chippenham Town.

The Hoops, now fifth in Vanarama National League South, had to come from behind after Jordan Young had given the visitors the lead. However, after Iaciofano's hat-trick it took goals from fellow strikers Josh Parker and Klaidi Lolos to secure the victory, Lolos' strike a particular highlight on a very chilly night at the RAW Charging Stadium.

Ross Jenkins' side came into the game on the back of a seven match unbeaten run and on a freezing night in Oxford, and both teams contributed to a match that warmed the cockles of every fan in attendance.

City fell behind when Alex Bray's cross was tapped in by Jordan Young just after the half hour mark, but within minutes the Hoops were level when Iaciofano was bundled over inside the area. Penalty.

The striker, as we're so accustomed to him doing, made no mistake from the spot, sending Town keeper Will Henry the wrong way after his now trademark hop, skip and jump run up.

However, City weren't done for the half an issued another blow to the visitors on the stroke of half-time. Once again, Iaciofano was on hand to score, this time beating his man on the edge of the box, making the space to fire into the top corner.

Half-Time: Oxford City 2-1 Chippenham Town

Five minutes after the interval, City looked like they were home and dry when Iaciofano completed his first career hat-trick. The City number nine capitalised on a sloppy pass in the Chippenham back line and made no mistake placing the ball into the net to make it 3-1.

Nevertheless, the match wasn't done and dusted yet (and not for the first time in the night). Harry Parsons was fed through on the left hand side of the pitch and send a stinging drive past Dudzinski to make it 3-2. Game on.

With Iaciofano's hat-trick complete it was only fitting for his striking partner to get his name on the scoresheet. Josh Parker curled home an effort from the edge of the box after Josh Ashby had picked out the striker.

Even so, Chippenham weren't to be counted out. Once again the visitors hauled themselves back in with a chance of a point when Luke Russe rounded Dudzinski and slotted home a third. 4-3.

Despite this, Ross Jenkins' side eventually put the game to bed with a moment of individual brilliance from Klaidi Lolos. The substitute unleashed a dipping effort towards goal from 30-yards out which nestled into the top corner, securing the three points once and for all.

If it wasn't for the other seven goals in the game, that strike was worth the admission fee alone.

A strong performance from City, who climb to fifth in VNLS and are now eight games unbeaten in the league.
