After a slow start in the first-half, the Hoops fought back from 3-1 down to level the scores through Steph Ferreira and a Jess Biggerstaff double. However, a cruel late goal consigned the Hoops to defeat.
City got off to a slow start and the visitors went ahead after seven minutes. A ball through the backline was latched onto by Esmee Sword and she had the simplest of tasks to place the ball past Nicole Spittle to make it 1-0.
Seven minutes before the interval, Wycombe doubled their lead. This time, Emma Kern was the provider, sending the ball through to Katie Riddington who made no mistake from inside the area.
Half-Time: Oxford City 0-2 Wycombe Wanderers
Ten minutes after the re-start, City started to get back into their usual rhythm. Georgina Tayman send a floated cross to the back post and Jess Biggerstaff was in the right place to nod home. 1-2.
However, almost instantly, Wycombe regained their two-goal cushion with a penalty. The decision was given for handball, but there was more than a shade of controversy around the decision. Nevertheles, Riddington made no mistake from the spot to put Wanderers back ahead.
The last meeting between the two teams (A 4-3 win for City) was full of entertainment, and this match was no different. City's 'never say die' attitude has served them well this season, and they were back in the contest again in the 64th minute.
Biggerstaff was on hand to add her second goal of the game, and it was a goal to savour! The striker cut inside onto her stronger foot and send a stinging shot into the top corner.
Soon after, City had turned the game on its head! Substitute Steph Ferreira was on hand to poke home from inside the six-yard box after a goal-line scramble. A scrappy goal but a goal nonetheless.
However, despite the valiant comeback it wasn't to be for City. A deflected shot from Amelia Sage in the 83rd minute was pounced upon by Riddington and the Wycombe striker sent a fierce effort past Spittle to the dismay of the Hoops side. 4-3.
A hammer blow for City but Aliyah Anthony's team continue to progress with every game. Next up in the league, a trip to Ascot United.
