Helen& Douglas House are the world’s first Children’s hospice and are at the very heart of the city of Oxford. Over the years they have helped thousands of local families cope with the challenges of looking after a terminally ill baby or child who will die prematurely.
They provide care in a warm, loving environment in a hospice filled with joy and laughter, whilst also being a peaceful place where families can create happy memories in their last days, weeks, months or years together.
Manager Ross Jenkins and James Gilmore who heads up the club’s community team visited last week and Ross told us:
“I think like a lot of people in Oxford I had seen the name of Helen & Douglas House without really knowing the amazing work they do. It was a privilege to go along and meet the staff and a couple of families who they are helping. It’s an incredible place and we will work with them now to help in any way we can.”
The partnership offers free match tickets for families who Helen & Douglas House are helping, free season tickets for the staff and a chance for families to come along and join summer camps or watch training.
Alison Hooker from Helen & Douglas House said “We were delighted to welcome Ross, James and Chris to the hospice recently to see first-hand the support we provide local families with terminally ill children.
Their offer of support for us through enabling us to do bucket collections at a match in January and all the tickets and football experiences they are offering families we support is so wonderful and we are very grateful for their support. Without amazing supporters like them, we simply wouldn’t be able to offer this vital care and support.”
