Defender joins on loan from Bromley.

Oxford City Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of defender Cole Kpekawa on loan from fellow Vanarama National League side Bromley FC.

Kpekawa [Pronounced Peck-ah-wa] joins the club on an initial 28-day loan and bolsters the Hoops’ backline. He is also eligible for this afternoon’s clash with Ebbsfleet United.

Upon signing for the Hoops, Cole said: “It’s good to get the deal over the line and come here. Hopefully I can get some games here and help Oxford do well in this league.

“The team move the ball well, like to play football, and keep the ball on the ground. I like that style of play and I think I can fit in nicely.

“It’s nice to play in a team who play like that, so it was a no brainer to come here really.”

Manager Ross Jenkins said: “Cole comes into the team with good experience and attributes.

"I've seen a lot of him over the last few years, so hopefully he can come in and hit the ground running.

"So him coming into the squad is a good addition as it gives us some more strength in depth and competition in the squad."

Kpekawa started his career in West London with then-Premier League side Queens Park Rangers. He made his senior debut at Loftus Road, coming off the bench in the Premier League against Leicester City.

After the R’s relegation, Cole also played a handful of games in the Championship, whilst also enjoying loan spells further down the EFL with Colchester United, Portsmouth & Leyton Orient respectively.

The central defender also has experience on the international scene after representing England at U20 level. He made four appearances in total, making his debut for the Three Lions in 2015 against the Czech Republic.

In 2016, he made the move to Oakwell to join Championship side Barnsley permanently. However, he made the switch to Colchester just a year later.

In 2018 he moved north of the border, to experience SPFL football with St Mirren, but returned to England with Billericay Town (then of the National League South).

In August 2020, Kpekawa was on the move again, this time across Europe to join Slovakian side AS Trenchin. However, once again he moved back to England (and the National League South) to link up with Chelmsford City & Hemel Hempstead.

City fans may remember Kpekawa after some impressive performances from the defender. Performances of which earned him another move up a division to Maidenhead United of the National League. Again, the central defender impressed and Bromley won the race for his signature in the summer.

Welcome to Oxford City, Cole!
