Oxford City captain Reece Fleet has admitted that there are lessons to learn after the Hoops’ opening day defeat to Aldershot.
City learnt that any sniff of complacency on the pitch will be capitalised on after the Hoops' initial positive start was turned on its head within a matter of moments.
However, ‘Fleety’ has said that the team will learn their lessons ahead of next Saturday’s home game against Rochdale.
“It was a tough day.” Fleet said.
“Obviously it was our first game in the division so it was a big lesson and learning curve for us.
“There’s some positives in there though and we’ll take it on the chin and we’ll be back next Saturday fighting for the three points.
“The lads are gutted to lose any game. It’s not a nice feeling.
“Last season we didn’t lose too many, so we’re disappointed. But like I say, there were some positives in spells and we’ll work hard to rectify our wrongs in the week.
“This level is ruthless, you get punished. As a team, we have a lot to learn from today and we’ve got to improve and be better next week.
“We started well, moved the ball well and created a few chances but then we gave away some sloppy goals at bad times.
“Again though, it’s a big learning curve for us all and we’ll aim to put it right next Saturday.”
