Oxford City Women continued their excellent form with a thrilling 3-3 draw at Winchester Flyers this afternoon.
Twice behind, City responded with equalisers from Ellie White and Lucy White . The former then seemed to have won it with a third goal but a late free kick meant honours even at Arbor Park.
City started strongly with White (E) rattlling the crossbar after eight minutes and Issy Bradley going close but against the run of play the Flyers took the lead after 15 minutes with a skidding effort that found the bottom left corner to make it 1-0.
City responded and top scorer Ellie White had them back on level terms after 24 minutes when she beat the onrushing keeper to a through ball and lifted it over her to make it 1-1 at the break.
City had further chances in that opening period with Georgina Tayman and and Kitty Crouch both going close but almost paid the price as the Flyers regained the lead soon after the interval with a clever finish that left keeper Kiera Maskell helpless. Again City responded with the dangerous White LIghtning combination getting them level when Ellie rolled the ball to namesake Lucy and it was 2-2.
It looked like City would then go on to win the game when they got their noses in front though Ellie White once more but a late free kick flew in from 30 yards to leave the Hoops perhaps a little frustrated not to have turned three goals on the road into three points.
However they now focus their attention on a big game on Easter Sunday when they welcome Wycombe Wanderers to the MGroup Stadium. With activities for all the family it should be a fitting end to an already excellent league season
