Oxford City Women started their SRWFL season with an excellent point on the road this afternoon as they drew 1-1 at Sholing Ladies.
Sub Ellie Waleki was on the mark and Coach Chris Smith told us,
“We saw more discipline and structure than last season and that’s partly because we have asked the players to take more responsibility this season; they certainly responded to that today
“We dominated a lot of the game against one of the teams we expect to be towards the top of the table and we had chances to win it but a point away from home was a reward for so much hard work in pre-season from everyone concerned.
“It’ s a young squad and this was just the first step on what we hope will be a journey we make together over the next three or four years. We know where we want to be by then and we are building all the time, which is exciting.
“We saw some players stand up today and be counted. We asked some of them to play slightly out of position to help the team and they responded brilliantly to that. Now we train hard, we take the positives and we look forward to our first home game of the season against Winchester next Sunday.”
