Despite being promoted to Vanarama National League South last season, Farnborough have been impressive in their first season back in step two.
Furthermore, an impressive draw on Tuesday evening to run-away leaders Ebbsfleet United has bolstered Boro’s play-off hopes going into the last two months of the season.
City came un-done in the reverse fixture between the two sides, losing 2-1 back in October and the gaffer has his sights set on revenge by taking back three points on Saturday.
“They’re a difficult team to play against on a good run of form.” Said Jenkins.
“They have great momentum going into the game off the back of a great draw with Ebbsfleet and they’re not losing too many either.
“They’re organised, well drilled and physical.
“We didn’t really turn up at their place, we turned up for the last 25 minutes of the game but the damage had already been done, so we have to make sure we apply ourselves properly.
“We looked lethargic and that was unusual for us as we have boys that would run through brick walls for each other. It just wasn’t us on the day and we’ll be looking at taking those three points back.”
However, the Hoops are on a great run of form themselves after going ten games unbeaten in VNLS, and go into the fixture in third position ahead of the season’s final two months.
A tricky run of fixtures await Jenkins’ side but the City gaffer has said that he pays no attention to the league standings and is taking teams at face value ahead of the run-in.
“Everyone is fighting for something.” Jenkins said.
“Farnborough have been judged to be outsiders, with a few games in hand but they’re right where we want to be.
“We don’t look at the league table as it’s false at times, we need to watch the team and take opponents on face value. We look at teams based on where they are in terms of ability and not league position.
“Saturday (against Farnborough) and Tuesday (against Braintree) are big games for the football club and also big games for Farnborough and Braintree as well, so there’s pressure on them too.
“They want to win these games so we’ve got to make sure we don’t make it easy for them and put in a real shift.
“Our games away at Welling and Farnborough this year were the only two games where we’ve not really turned up and wasn’t us.
“When we’re not ourselves and we don’t do our basics well, nine times out of ten we won’t get a result.
“We started to play in the last 25 minutes of the game (in the reverse fixture against Farnborough), so we showed glimpses of what we could do and scored a great goal through Jayden (Carbon).
“It was a great move in our style but we didn’t implement that early enough in the game and gave away two sloppy goals.
“We need to make sure we’re aware of those threats on Saturday and start playing our game earlier, when we start our game early and on the front foot, we get an upper hand and it’s difficult for teams to cope with us.
“You can’t win a game without hard work, and the last ten results have come down to our grittiness, determination and all of the stuff you don’t use the tactics board for.
“If we do that then the football always comes out on top at the end, so we need to address that properly on Saturday.”
