Two goals either side of the interval from Lewis Coyle and Josh Parker respectively had put the Hoops in control. However, a Ryan Blackman scorcher handed the Saints a way back into the game.
After City had previously thrown away a two-goal lead on New Year’s Day away at Slough, there were some thoughts that it could’ve been déjà vu. However, the City players had learnt from their mistakes and dug deep to defend the three points.
All of which left Jenkins happy with how his side had performed from the very first whistle.
“It was a really good performance, we played on the front foot and were aggressive,” he said.
“That’s something we’ve needed for a couple of games now and that was definitely there and against a really good St Albans team.
“They’re in that position for a reason but at the same time we’re strong at home and we set our game plan out early and kept it up for the ninety minutes so that was really nice to see.
“We’re delighted, it’s unlucky that we couldn’t keep the clean sheet but in terms of effort and intensity it was there 100%.
“It was a really good performance and the boys are feeling good so we move onto next week now.
“The boys know how much it hurt last week at Slough and we analysed it but the boys really dug deep at the end as St Albans had the momentum at the end of the game.
“Every player in our team was defending the balls into the box and the players need a lot of credit. The boys dug deep and to a man they did their jobs but from the first whistle, the intent was there to put our mark on St Albans so big credit to our players.”
