City have reached the First Round ‘proper’ for the fourth time in the last five seasons and an upset on Saturday would equal City’s best ever run in the competition.
However, Jenkins is well aware of the difficult task ahead.
“We’re excited.” Jenkins told www.oxfordcityfc.co.uk.
“We’ve been quite consistent in the last eight or nine games but we wanted to come into this game on the back of a good win, so when we played Hungerford it was a top priority to put in a good performance. I thought we got that.
“Fleetwood are a very good team, you can look at the league table, form and other factors but they’re very strong, organised, fit and they work very hard. It’s going to be a real test.
“Everyone at the club is looking forward to it. We’ve got to appreciate that the level they’re at is a lot higher than where we are and we’ll have to be at our absolute maximum to get anything from the game.”
This is the first time that the two sides have been drawn against each other in the competition and Jenkins says that his side have nothing to lose going into the tie.
“In our last few games we’ve been the favourites, so that comes with the expectation to win the game. However, we’re going there as underdogs so there’s no pressure on us.
“I don’t want to put pressure on the boys but they know that this is a free hit for the club to try and make an impact in the competition. As long as we show 100% commitment and effort, run, work hard and try and play our football then we have a chance.
“In terms of the occasion, the platform and the experience for our squad, it’s going to be a brilliant day. Hopefully we can top it off with a good performance.
“If we perform well and we prepare well and still don’t get the result, then at least we can hold our hands up and say we’ve done everything possible to win a game of football.
“We’re all looking forward to it and it’s going to be an exciting game.”
Just like City, Fleetwood have a young up-and-coming manager in ex-Celtic captain Scott Brown and Jenkins has been full of praise for Town’s manager.
“I think the players are playing for him and they’re working hard for him from what I’ve seen.
“They look organised and I expect nothing less from a top player to go into a club and set his standards high.
“It’ll be a tough challenge and the players are really playing for him. The energy and work rate are definitely visible from the games I’ve seen.
“It’s going to be a real test and like myself, I hope he has a really good first season in management and his league form progresses and he does well because he’s a young manager like myself and we all want to do well in our first year.”
