Oxford City Manager Ross Jenkins has spoken about the upcoming game against Chorley in the Vanarama National League North as the Hoops hope to return to action.
City haven’t played a league game since they lost 2-0 Brackley Town on New Years Day and Jenkins is eager to get back to playing and he expects a good game, he said: “It will be great to get a game on. We have a journey ahead of us on the back of a South Shields disappointment, and we know they will be a good side.”
“They have strength and depth in their squad, they’re doing well as a side, and they’ve been around the top for a while now.
“Tuesday night away is always a tough proposition, we have to go up and make sure we turn up, that’s always the first priority.”
Despite multiple postponements and a long period away from competitive football, Jenkins is confident that the players have remained motivated and are excited to get back to playing football.
“The mood is good, and the boys are fully rested so we know there will be no questions about that.
“It’s a grass pitch so it might be a bit bobbly, so we have to play the conditions, other than that the boys are in good spirits.”
Travelling long distances and not playing football can take its toll and Jenkins spoke about the challenges that comes with motivating his players week-in-week-out recently without any minutes on the pitch.
“We build them up for every game. We give them all the information they need to know, and we go through each player giving them the information they need.
“We travel properly and prepare properly and then a game can get cancelled. That’s football. It’s not a loss but it’s also not a win so you just have to go again.
“We have to make sure that we go again and that’s Chorley. The boys should be ready to go, I know it’s a long journey on a Tuesday night, but the boys are missing playing in recent weeks.
The benefits of such a period away from the game are the lack of fitness concerns and Jenkins is pleased he’s able to select from a fully fit squad.
