Oxford City will take on Scarborough Athletic at Court Place Farm on Saturday in the Vanarama National League North as the Hoops look continue their string of good performances.
The two sides met last season in the FA Cup, where a last-minute equaliser from the Seadogs forced a replay which Scarborough eventually won in stoppage time.
Oxford City Manager Ross Jenkins previewed the game on Saturday and addressed last season’s clashes.
“We’ve played them previously and it was a battle at their place and a battle here, so I expect the same performance.”
City have been on a good run of form recently, especially away from home, winning three in a row and will look to continue their rich vein of form against a Scarborough side who have dropped points in the last few games.
“We’ve played well over the last few games and it’s important we continue that. It takes a lot of effort to get a good result in this league and the boys have got the results for their hard work.
“We want to address our home form and that’s something we are keeping an eye on and we’re aware of. The big emphasis is on putting in a good performance again.
“The most important thing is to take it game by game, whether that’s home or away. We’re aware of the home form but we won’t add extra pressure to us.
“We need to make sure we stick to what we’ve been doing and keep believing in it and keep running for each other and the club. If we do that and tick all the boxes, the result will come.”
City’s last defeat at home was against King’s Lynn, they have since drawn to Southport at Court Place Farm and Jenkins is keen to turn around the fortunes at home.
“We had a good performance against King’s Lynn here. I thought we should have won the game; we gave away two goals and it’s always an uphill battle.
“We need to learn from those errors. The last performance was a gritty one. It took us until the 87th or 88th minute to score so it might take 45 minutes, 12 minutes or 90 minutes to score so the boys have to stick with it and keep going.”
As the season draws into the winter and the fixture list piles up, Jenkins is acutely aware of the need for a fully firing squad and depth in the squad.
“The boys have been working their socks off and so they should be, shirts are up for grabs, and they’ve performed well.
“We have seen over the last few games we’ve had injuries and some boys out with suspensions but that’s part of the game.
“The boys who have stepped in have done really well, they’ve been patient, taken their chance and they’ve held their shirt.
“Rotation is a part of football. We want them to hold their shirts, when you’ve got Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday, Tuesday it can get really hard for some.
“The boys who have affected us from the bench came off the other night and have done really well. It is a team game, whether you start or finish the game, you’re just as important.”
