Oxford City will host Southport on Saturday in the Vanarama National League North following a dominant performance from the Hoops away from home at Radcliffe.
City have had an upturn in form, particularly away from home in recent weeks and Oxford City Manager Ross Jenkins is hopeful that this run of form can continue into the weekend.
“Apart from the King’s Lynn game, I think we’ve been first class. I thought we deserved more from that game, and it sticks in my mind because of how we played but we need to take this to Saturday and move forward.
“But what’s done is done, we’ve had some good performances, individually and as a team the performances have been good.
“The boys have worked hard and they’re training hard, and we want to create the environment where you train hard and you play hard and you get the rewards you deserve.”
“It feels good in house, the changing room feels good, so we have to keep going.”
Despite the confidence Jenkins has in his players, he was keen to stress the quality of the Southport side, who currently sit in the playoff positions.
“They’re at the top of the table for a reason. They’re a good team, they’re organised and disciplined, and they have some experience. It’s a tough league.
“At the moment we’re trying to address some basics, get back to square one, keep working hard and so far it’s going well and we hope to continue that over the weekend.
“We’re fully aware of the threats they have. We know it’s going to be a tough game. We have to earn the right to play, like you do in every game.”
The winter period throws up different problems for Jenkins, especially with long away trips in the National League North but Jenkins refused to look too far ahead and was adamant to focus on the task at hand on the weekend.
“We have two games coming up now, with not too much rest in between but we’re not looking at the table. Whether you’re above us or below us, we have to earn the right the play and that’s been our process here. It’s all about the next game and that’s Southport on Saturday.
“It’s a busy period but the important one is always the next game. If you take your eye off that game and start thinking too far ahead you lose focus on what you need to achieve.
“That information will be fed down to the players when needed. Right now, their focus is Saturday."
