Ross Jenkins has said that his squad can’t wait to be back in action, after seventeen days without a first team fixture.
The Hoops’ fixture away at Woking on Saturday was postponed due to a frozen pitch, and after exiting the Isuzu FA Trophy, the week prior City were without a fixture due to other team’s participation in the tournament.
Tuesday’s opponents are also in a similar boat. Their last two league fixtures have been postponed due to weather, meaning there’ll be two squads of players champing at the bit to return.
The City Gaffer has said that having the rest and time on the training pitch has been beneficial, but admitted there was no substitute than match minutes.
“The Woking game (being postponed) was frustrating, as all the boys want to play games,” said Jenkins.
“We had a good week of training leading up to the game, but that’s football.
“But if anything it’s allowed us to give one or two players a few more days training and rest. It’s had its pros & cons.
“They’re (York) a big club with a big fan base, and Neal Ardley has them working in a good manner, so it’s going to be a difficult game.
“From the match up at their place, in the first-half, I don’t think we were good enough. We sat off them a little bit too much and we were a little bit passive.
“In the second-half, we were better. Our football showed and we started to move the ball much better and tried to control the game a little bit more, which hopefully we can do at home.
“We’ve had seventeen days off, and that’s a long time, so the boys are really keen to play games.
“There’s only so much training you can do, you need the realism of a game.
“We have things we need to work on, which we’ve done this week and hopefully we can see that in the games that are coming up.”
City’s last match was a 2-1 defeat at Hartlepool United towards the beginning of the month, meaning that the squad have had plenty of time to analyse the match.
But Jenkins believes that the time off will help the squad focus on Tuesday’s tough challenge.
“In our last match against Hartlepool, the performance was ok, but the goals we conceded were sloppy on our behalf.
“Those are the fine margins that are costing us at the moment, and it’s important we had a good week of training to put that behind us and focus on the next game.
“Now, it’s a good opportunity to play at home, put a good performance on, and hopefully get a good result.”
